After five years and 10 competitions, Alaska filmmakers have put out around 200 short films into the world through the Film Royal events. While I'm getting crazy FOMO to be stepping away from organizing these to devote more time to growing Home Made Film Nite, I'm excited to see how this event will evolve. Thanks for being such a wonderful community of artists, and I hope you never stop making movies.

I'm pretty dang proud of the 19 projects showing at the first-ever Home Made Film Nite. Show your support for local independent filmmaking and come to the show! Buy tickets through the Facebook event or Eventbrite listing.
I'm super excited to announce a new filmmaking event taking place on September 7 at the Anchorage Museum: Home Made Film Nite! A spiritual successor to Open Projector Night from back in the day, Home Made Film Nite is a new platform for filmmakers of all skill levels to come together and celebrate this craft we all love. Check out the Facebook event for specifics, and get started on making your next movie this summer!
Over the last five years, I've said all there is to say about how rewarding it is to organize the 24-Hour Film Royal and how inspiring the Anchorage filmmaking community is. The only thing left for me to say – for anyone who even remotely cares – is that this will be my last year running the show. Although my final event will be the 5-Day Film Royal this December, I consider the 24 my baby. My own filmmaking journey began at someone else's 24-hour competition back in 2007, and arguably the whole local film scene grew from that. So it was a no-brainer to revive the event that gave me and this community so much. Melodramatic rambling aside, the 24 will carry on in the hands of its co-founders. Hopefully I'll get back to actually making movies again. I've also got a new event in its planning stages that should make anyone who misses the old days of Open Projector Night happy. Anyway, it's been a pleasure. Now go make movies!

Over the last four years, I've exhausted all the ways I can gush about how proud I am of this community of Alaska filmmakers and how gratifying it is to co-organize the 5-Day Film Royal. So I'm just going to let the annual behind-the-scenes documentary do the heavy lifting. Thanks to everyone who made a film, and to everyone who came out to watch them. Keep making movies, and we'll see you at the 24-Hour Film Royal in April.
